Quinoa Crustini

You ever go to a ball, or some other flavor of bourgy party? You know, the ones where they have a coat check and those people walking around with trays at hors d’oeurves with a tower of glistening crystal glasses in the background.

Me neither.

While I have never been to one of those fancy shindigs and had the amazing menus they serve (or laid on a grand piano singing either mind you), I do know a fancy appetizer when I taste one.

Quinoa Crustini

1 loaf of French bread

1 cup tricolor quinoa

1 cup garlic spreadable cheese

salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder to taste

To start, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and put a pot of lightly salted water on high heat. Then take your loaf of bread, and cut into 1-inch slices, lay face up on a cookie sheet and butter. Put your quinoa on the stove, bring to a boil then simmer for 15 minutes covered. After that, take the slices and baked for about 5 minutes, just to get the edges nice and toasty. Once your quinoa is done, mix in your spices to taste.

Now, when assembling, I prefer a ratio with more quinoa but then we also had trouble with keeping the mountain of quinoa on the actual bread. So I would suggest an equal amount of both cheese and quinoa, or at least a little less quinoa.

Then you’re done! Put on your fanciest gown, most posh accent, and dance on the table!
